In general, Social Anxiety is a fear of social situations or interaction with other people. Put another way, it is the fear and anxiety of being judged and evaluated negatively by people, leading to feelings of inadequacy,embarrassment, humiliation, and/or depression. Signs and symptoms of social anxiety may include:
- Trembling or shaking
- Fast heartbeat
- Upset stomach
- Shaky voice
- Muscle tension
- Cold, clammy hands
- Difficulty making eye contact
Everyday nervousness (such as butterflies when giving a presentation, meeting someone new, etc.) is normal.
